Private tutors for Positive Learning

Skills and confidence building to help with exams, school life and growth mindset for kids.

Leap was founded to provide a service to children and parents who want more than online learning or worksheets. We believe these miss a critical aspect of learning: participation and interaction with peers and tutors. Moving away from process centred teaching, allows our tutors to be truly learner focused.

Our lessons are based around the theory of Universal Design for Learning. By teaching children in different ways, we bring out the best in them. We use qualified teachers and have designed our own sessions to be easily tailored to each child’s needs.

Positive Learning lessons are unique to Leap and fit in perfectly with our learner centred approach. The sessions allow children to explore ideas and gain confidence in themselves and determination in their efforts.

Examples of the sessions:

  • Taking Responsibility
  • Growth Mindset
  • Setting Goals
  • Preparing for secondary school
  • Following Instructions
  • Exam Preparation

A common issue that we hear from parents is that a lack of confidence can hold back children, no matter at what academic level they are. Here is some feedback we received from parents which reflect our approach well:

“The best thing is, my daughter can’t wait for the next session!! She even swapped her favourite after school activity for maths, grammar, etc at Leap!! What else can I say?”

“Leap have skilfully managed to create an environment where children are keen and eager to learn.”

“Leap has been a godsend for my son. It’s unique tutoring as it’s teacher led in a great environment, following the Key Stage curriculum and he comes out absolutely buzzing! He says it “helps him loads”. I absolutely recommend this to others.”

Be unique. Be different. Be proud

Leap is different from 1-to-1 tutors because there is less pressure on learners, and small groups encourage interaction whilst maintaining effectiveness of teaching.

Leap is different to other learning centres because we:

  • Have qualified teachers leading our lessons
  • Prioritise participation and interaction (no session is based on an online course)
  • Follow Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles
  • Use engaging subjects such as team working, confidence building or goal setting

Leap’s Positive Learning sessions cover English, Maths and life skills through interaction, team work and lessons purposefully designed for participation. This is what we call Positive Learning!

Research from the Sutton Trust and their Education Endowment Fund (EEF) have shown outcomes that confirm our approach makes tutoring more effective

Small Group Tuition

“Evidence shows that small group tuition is effective… Studies suggest that greater feedback from the teacher, more sustained engagement in smaller groups, or work which is more closely matched to learners’ needs explains this impact.”

Collaborative Learning

“A collaborative learning approach involve pupils working together on activities or learning tasks in a group small enough for everyone to participate on a collective task that has been clearly assigned.

Metacognition (Learning to Learn/Study skills)

“These strategies are usually more effective when taught in collaborative groups so that learners can support each other and make their thinking explicit through discussion.”

“Approaches which promote talk and interaction between learners tend to result in the best gains.”
